RE: President's Convocation: The Bread of Life
President's Convocation: The Bread of Life
September 27, 2006
Dr. R. Alton Lacey, president of Missouri Baptist University, urged an attentive student body to begin living outwardly focused, Christ-centered lives at MBU’s annual President’s Convocation, Sept. 14.
“On this day you are full of opportunity,” Lacey stressed. “Faith is trusting in the poetry that says Jesus is more than you can wrap your mind around. Faith takes imagination. Faith takes getting beyond your limited thinking.”

Dr. Lacey talks to an attentive MBU student body during the University's annual President's Convocation, which was held Sept. 14.
Interweaving his comments around the miracle Jesus performed when he fed 5,000 with two fish and five loaves of bread, Lacey told MBU students that true happiness comes from an authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
“Jesus says, ‘I am bread. I am bread come down from heaven to nourish you forever.’ I believe in such bread. When you come to him you will be fed forever,” Lacey said. “Your soul will never be satisfied with the things that fill your belly, or your wallet, or your house. The big things of life come from following Christ.”
Also during the yearly chapel, MBU’s new faculty members lined the stage of the University’s Pillsbury Chapel, pledging to uphold the University’s fabric of faith and learning.
Lacey and Dr. Arlen Dykstra, provost and vice president for academic affairs, officially installed seven new faculty members during the service.
New members of the MBU faculty this year include: Marnie Kohler, instructor of psychology; David Pierce, instructor of health and sport sciences; Mark Kimzey, instructor of sports medicine; Joy Powell, instructor of theatre arts; and Dr. Ron Brandley and Marsha Tierney, assistant professors of education.
