RE: Author of The Coffeehouse Gospel to speak at MBU Chapel
Author of The Coffeehouse Gospel to speak at MBU Chapel
September 18, 2006
Having penned books with titles such as Provocative Faith and The Coffeehouse Gospel, Matthew Paul Turner’s passion to help form relevant Christians may not come as much of a surprise.
"We are a generation made up of Christians who are arguably much more in touch with what’s happening in the world than generations past. Yet, we’re also a lot more distant from a regular church life, and some of us are totally disenfranchised with organized religion all together,” Turner wrote on his Web site, Matthewpaulturner.com.
Turner, who is set to speak at MBU’s convocation Tuesday, Oct. 3, is expected to challenge MBU’s student body to keep a relevant worldview while maintaining a Christ-centered perspective.
After experiencing turbulent spiritual beginnings in several churches, Turner became dedicated to educating people how to live the Christian faith within the confines of popular culture.
In addition to his vast experience as a speaker and author, Turner’s host of music industry experiences includes logging time as a concert booker for the world famous coffeehouse Jammin’ Java and holding the music and entertainment editorial position at Crosswalk.com. In addition, Turner regularly is featured at concerts, online chats and at national Christian festivals and colleges around the country.
"We live in a culture that is very hard to minister to, yet people are looking for something real that they can wrap their hearts around," Turner said. "Whether someone’s already come to the faith in Jesus or is investigating it for the first time, they have a need for someone who is eternally relevant, and I feel called to help them find His way."
