MBU Welcomes New Faculty

August 30, 2006

MBU has announced the appointments of seven new fulltime faculty members for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Marnie Kohler has joined the Division of Social and Behavioral Sciences as an Instructor of Psychology. Previously, Kohler worked as a student therapist at Kids in the Middle, a nonprofit organization that provides counseling, education and support for kids and families when parents decide to separate and divorce. Kohler holds both a B.A. in Psychology and a M.S. in Education from MBU. She has also received a Psychology Examiner Certificate in professional counseling.

With more than 30 years of educational and athletic experience, David Pierce has joined the growing Health and Sport Sciences Division as an Instructor of Sport Management. Pierce retired from Maryville University in 2002 as Director of Athletics. Pierce holds a B.S. in Elementary Eucation from Lakeland College and a M.S. in Sports Administration from the U.S. Sports Academy. Since 2002, Pierce has been employed at MBU as an adjunct instructor.

Effective Jan. 1, Paula Bennett will join the University’s Division of Fine Arts as Assistant Professor of Communications. For more than 25 years, Bennett has worked as a broadcast engineer at KSDK-TV Channel 5. In addition, Bennett has taught as an adjunct instructor at MBU since 2001. Bennett holds a B.S. in Education from Louisiana State University and a M.S. in Communications from University of Southern Mississippi.

Dr. Ron Brandley has been appointed as an Assistant Professor of Education. Brandley has more than 35 years of experience in the field of education, including: superintendent, principal, and teacher. Brandley has taught as an adjunct professor at MBU since 2000.

Marsha Tierney has been appointed as an assistant professor of Education. Tierney has held a number of positions in the public school district setting, from teacher to principal. Tierney holds both a B.A. in Sociology/Psychology and a M.S. in Counseling from Southwest Baptist University,

In conjunction with MBU’s new Theatre Arts major, Joy Powell has been appointed as an Instructor of Theatre Arts. For the last three years, Powell, an accomplished actress, has been at the helm of MBU’s theatre productions as director of drama productions. During that time, MBU’s productions have grown exponentially and garnered acclaim. Powell holds a B.S. in Musical Theatre Performance from Ball State University and a M.A. in Theatre from Lindenwood University.

Mark Kimzey, who has long been affiliated with MBU as a student, staff member and adjunct instructor, has joined the Health and Sports Sciences Division as an Instructor of Sports Medicine. Kimzey holds a B.A. from MBU, and a Master of Science in Education—Exercise Physiology from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
