What did you do last summer?

MBU students traveled the worldwide this past summer, helping people in need while gaining invaluable experience. Here’s a sampling of what some of our students did with their summer:

Kinsey Kell Who: Kinsey Kell, senior—business administration/ religion
Where: Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
What: Helped with post-Katrina cleanup efforts; painted houses, held a vacation bible school
Rob Stain Who: Rob Stain, senior—religion major/ religious education minor
Where: High Ridge, Mo.
What: Participated in Mercy Week, a time where members of the congregation took time off work to accomplish local mission work.
Timothy Shaefer Who: Timothy Shaefer, junior—music education
Where: Springfield, Mo.
What: Worked as a counselor for high school students at the St. Louis / Kansas City Four Square Camp.
Kendra Bryant Who: Kendra Bryant, sophomore—religious education emphasis sports evangelism
Where: Gateway International Raceway
What: Volunteered at Gateway International with the Midwest Raceway Ministries.
John Barnes Who: John Barnes, sophomore—worship arts/ church music
Where: Desoto, Mo.
What: Volunteered at church community day;  provided free resources in an effort to serve Jefferson County.
Luke Mcanally Who: Luke Mcanally, freshman—undeclared
Where: Pascagoula, Miss.
What: Built house; sponsored backyard Bible clubs; worked at soup kitchens.
Brittany Klaus & Stacie Cathers Who: Brittany Klaus, freshman—psychology
Stacie Cathers, freshman—music education
Where: Houma, La.
What: Tore down uninhabitable houses; sponsored weekly kids camp.
Scott Mitchell Who: Scott Mitchell, junior—religion major
Where: Huntsville, Ala.
What: Worked with two churches; ran a backyard Bible club; performed repair work; held three-day bible club.
D.J. Russell Who: D.J. Russell, junior—religious education
Where: Litchfield, Ill. and Waterloo, Ill.
What: Worked as a counselor at two church camps; mentored junior high students.
Eric Farmer Who: Eric Farmer, senior—religious education
Where: Israel
What: Two-week study trip.
Amanda Ward Who: Amanda Ward, senior—business administration
Where: Jefferson City, Tenn.
What: Worked at Crosspoint, a Christian sports camp for 4th through 8th graders.
Miranda Myer Who: Miranda Myer, senior—math with a teaching certification
Where: Nasville, Tenn.
What: Worked as a track leader at MFUGE; worked at a homeless shelter; helped Somali refugees.
Clayton McKibbon & Pat Anderson Who: Clayton McKibbin, junior—math with a teaching certification
Pat Anderson, junior—history with a teaching certification
Where: Ocean Springs, Miss.
What: Worked to rebuild homes in the wake of Katrina: painted.
Jordan Cox Who: Jordan Cox, sophomore—music / education and worship arts
Where: Jefferson City, Tenn.
What: Worked at Centrifuge Camp; Bible study leader for 7th and 8th grad boys.
Brent Bradshaw Who: Brent Bradshaw, sophomore—religious education
Where: Sault Ste. Mari, Mich.
What: Led 70 youth on various mission trips over a six-week span.
Brook Miller Who: Brook Miller, senior—pre med / missions
Where: Romania
What: Worked on medical-related mission trips in remote villages.
Kate Murphy Who: Kate Murphy, senior
Where: Belarus
What: Provided resources for a church; held vacation Bible school.
