RE: MBU Athletic Program Ranks Nationally
MBU Athletic Program Ranks Nationally
July 24, 2006
Missouri Baptist University’s Athletic Program has ranked among the top programs in the nation for its successes during the 2005-2006 school year.
MBU placed fourteenth in the 2005-06 U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup, a program that bases its rankings on the accomplishments of institutions in each of the NCAA Divisions (I, II, and III), and the NAIA. MBU is a member of NAIA and the American Midwest Conference.
“I am extremely proud of our athletic teams and the coaches at Missouri Baptist University,” said Thomas Smith, MBU director of athletics. “Our coaches work very hard to instill the five NAIA Core Values and it shows in our scholar athletes. Now, the success of our programs and our coaches’ accomplishments are being noticed nationwide.”
During the 2005-2006 school year, MBU claimed title of national champions in women’s indoor and outdoor track and field. In addition, the MBU women’s volleyball team made it to the final-four national competition and a host of other teams were named American Midwest Conference Champions.
Developed as a joint effort between USA TODAY and the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup program is the only all-sports competition that recognizes institutions with the best overall athletics program.
