RE: MBU Breaks Ground for Student Coffeehouse
MBU Breaks Ground for Student Coffeehouse
May 25, 2006

MBU constituents, along with local community members, break ground for a student coffeehouse May 25. From left are: Keith Ross, MBU vice president of Institutional Advancement; MBU Trustee William Copeland; MBU Trustee Bill Houk; Dr. Alton Lacey, president of MBU; Ann Warren, vice president of commercial banking at U.S. Bank; Kristin Fitzgerald, president of MBU’s student government association; and Stewart Lindley, executive vice president of Amerwest, Inc.
Missouri Baptist University broke ground May 25 for a nearly 3,000-square foot coffeehouse, a structure University officials believe will enhance the union of a growing MBU student body for years to come.
“This building will give MBU students a practical and fun venue where they can come together and be themselves,” said Keith Ross, vice president for institutional advancement. “It’s going to be a great backdrop for the friendships that are daily made at MBU.”
More than 100 MBU students, trustees, employees and other MBU constituents attended the event. The coffeehouse, which will be named later this year, is expected to open for business by mid fall.
The University has entered into a partnership with Kaldi’s Coffee Roasting Company, a St. Louis-based business that offers more than thirty hand-roasted coffee blends, to provide a full line of coffees, smoothies, espressos and gourmet drinks. The coffeehouse will also serve bagels and pastries.
The trendy structure will feature, among other things, a functional fireplace, flat screen televisions, a stage for regular performances, an outdoor patio and high-speed wireless Internet connection. The building will seat about 100 people.
The building’s interior is expected to take on an eclectic, vintage ambiance, featuring unique furniture, and an unfinished vaulted ceiling that exposes the structure’s wooden trusses.
