RE: MBU confers largest graduating class
MBU confers largest graduating class
May 4, 2006
At its largest venue yet for its largest graduating class ever, Missouri Baptist University again made history at its thirty-fourth commencement, conferring at total of 579 degrees May 2 inside The Family Arena in St. Charles Mo.
Gary Dollar, president and CEO of United Way of Greater St. Louis, delivered the keynote address, urging the MBU Class of 2006 to continue living a life of service after graduation.
“Through your experience of the milieu of this place I hope you have been captured by faith, love and hope and that you have developed a vision and passion for the great principles this university is built on – the principles of service, community and the respect and dignity of all people,” said Dollar, who joined United Way in 1985 and was named the organization’s president in 2001. “If you learned these great principles, you will find developing in you a growing commitment to working to make these principles real world realities - instead of remaining academic concepts - no matter what career path you are on.”
MBU conferred twenty-two Certificates in Ministry and Leadership; one Associate of Science in Business Administration degree; eighty-three Bachelor of Arts degree; three Bachelor of Music degrees; three Bachelor of Music in Education degrees; fifteen Bachelor of Professional Studies degrees; 137 Bachelor of Science degrees; eighty-two Bachelor of Science in Education degrees; two Writing Certificates in English; three Graduate Certificates in Sport Management; four Masters of Arts in Christian Ministry degrees; twenty-five Master of Business Administration degrees; and 199 master of science in education degrees.
A result of years of unprecedented growth, MBU opted to move this year’s commencement from the Greensfelder Recreation Complex at Queeny Park to The Family Arena. More than 3,000 guests were in attendance.
Dollar, who graduated from North Central College with a B.A. in history and secondary education and received a Master of Divinity degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, is a board member of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association. In addition, he also serves on the Dean’s Professional Advisory Committee of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work and the Mayor’s Commission on Children, Youth and Families formed by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
