CEO of United Way of Greater St. Louis to Speak at MBU Commencement
April 11, 2006
The leader of St. Louis’ largest charitable fund-raising organization is set to speak at Missouri Baptist University’s thirty-fourth commencement.
Known for his compassion and devotion to the St. Louis region, Gary Dollar, president and CEO of United Way of Greater St. Louis, will encourage MBU’s largest graduating class to date to continue living a life of service after their days at MBU.
Dollar joined the United Way campaign division in 1985. He progressed through the United Way and was named the organization’s president and chief executive officer in 2001.
The United Way’s annual fund-raising campaign generously supports more than 200 health and human service organizations and agencies in sixteen Missouri and Illinois counties. This strong network of quality organizations and services strengthen families, invest in children, help the elderly and build safer neighborhoods. United Way agencies served more than a million people in 2005—one in three people who live in the bi-state region.
Dollar is a board member of the St. Louis Regional Chamber and Growth Association. In addition, he also serves on the Dean’s Professional Advisory Committee of the George Warren Brown School of Social Work and the Mayor’s Commission on Children, Youth and Families formed by St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay.
He graduated from North Central College with a B.A. in history and secondary education. He also graduated from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with Masters of Divinity. He is married to Gale and has two sons.
About Graduation: The 2006 commencement exercises will be held Tuesday evening, May 2, 2006, at the St. Charles Family Arena. The ceremony will begin promptly at 7 p.m. For directions to the Family Arena, go to www.mobap.edu/commencement.
