Missouri Baptist University presents You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown January 20-22
When Charlie Brown’s around not much seems to work out.
But when America’s favorite fretter—along with his notorious gang of foes—comes to life on the stage of Missouri Baptist University, the famed comic strip character’s bad luck is sure to be bolstered to a new level.
“It shows the day in the life of these very interesting kids,” said MBU sophomore Clayton McKibbin, who has been cast as Linus Van Pelt, the young intellect known for his security blanket. “It is good to revert back to see how these characters view the world from their childlike state.”
The feel good musical that is sure to conjure up memories of the past with its enduring life lessons and renowned cast of characters is set to debut at Missouri Baptist University from January 20 through January 22.
The musical, You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown, is MBU’s first-ever student directed production. In an effort to help enhance the students’ experience, the MBU cast and crew will have sole responsibility of the musical’s outcome—from the set design and costuming to musical direction and casting.
“We are thrilled to be able to bring the first ever student-directed production to MBU,” said Joy Powell, drama director. “Our students work very hard and it is exciting to see them have such ownership of a project on their home turf. It is our goal that the students will gain the hands on experience they need so that when they leave here they have the skills and the confidence they need to make an impact in our world."
With the hopes of raising awareness and food for the local families in need, MBU students who bring four canned goods will be admitted to the musical at no cost. All of the items collected will be donated to a local St. Louis food pantry.
Because of the musical’s style, the production will be housed in MBU’s intimate recital hall. Only 155 tickets are on sale for each performance.
