RE: Professor Lectures in South Korea

Professor Lectures in South Korea

December 7, 2005

A professor at Missouri Baptist University traveled to South Korea over Thanksgiving break, providing insight and wisdom about the landscape of Asian American literature.

Dr. John HanOfficials from Chungbuk National University in South Korea invited South Korean native Dr. John Han, professor of English at MBU and chair of the humanities division, to present his lecture, “Asian American Writing: An Overview.”

“Asian American Literature is an emerging field,” said Han, who spoke to a group of nearly forty undergraduate students. “It was my desire to introduce them to this emerging academic discipline so that they might know about this field. I was very intrigued by the students’ attentiveness.”

The special lecture covered such topics as the historical background to Asian American writing, representative authors and characteristics and responses of Asian American literature.

The Department of English Language and Literature and the Research Institute of Humanities at CBNU sponsored the lecture.

Dr. John Han’s work has been published in numerous publications, and he has authored a number of writings. He received his Ph.D. in English at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He received his M.A. in English from Kansas State University and M.Ed. in English Education from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea. He earned his B.A. in English Language and Literature from Kookmin University, Seoul, Korea.
