Stanfield Receives 2005 Emerson Award
November 16, 2005
Endorsing her untiring dedication to higher learning, Dr. Pam Stanfield, professor of education at Missouri Baptist University, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2005 Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award.
“Because of her vast professional experience and her innate love for teaching, Dr. Stanfield year after year challenges and helps students become quality teachers in today’s society,” said Dr. Arlen Dykstra, University provost and vice president for academic affairs. “She works diligently and passionately to help improve the lives of every student she teaches.”
The Excellence in Teaching program, sponsored by St. Louis-based Emerson, Inc., annually recognizes more than 100 teachers from pre-school through higher education. The program began in 1989 as part of St. Louis' VP Fair, but in 1991 it was adapted to coincide with the beginning of National Education Week in the fall.
As a professor of education, Dr. Stanfield of Chesterfield, Mo. uses innovative and relevant material to broaden the perspectives of her students. With over twenty-five years of experience in the field—twelve of them spent as a principal—Dr. Stanfield provides invaluable insight into the classroom as she prepares her students for careers in education.
Teaching, however, is only a fraction of Dr. Stanfield’s professional attributes.
As MBU’s director of special needs, Dr. Stanfield cultivates lasting relationships with special needs students as they enter the formative college years. Whether her task is providing logistical support for campus living or comforting a parent who has just sent a child to college, Dr. Stanfield’s personal attention and assistance makes an impact on a vast amount of students every year.
In addition to her service at MBU, Dr. Stanfield volunteers her time each week at a local middle school as a mentor and tutor.
