RE: MBU Receives NCATE Accreditation
MBU Receives NCATE Accreditation
October 26, 2005
Recognizing a demonstrated excellence in teacher education, Missouri Baptist University has attained approval from the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
“This accreditation validates the quality of our educational program, faculty and necessary supporting university resources,” said James French, education chair and associate professor.
NCATE is the recognized national accreditation body for programs in teacher education. The performance-based system of evaluation fosters competent classroom teachers and other educators who work to improve the education of students--from preschool through grade 12.
Of the more than 1,500 colleges and universities offering teacher education programs, NCATE currently accredits 602. MBU is the only Baptist institution and one of only eight private institutions in Missouri to have received NCATE accreditation. A total of seventeen institutions in Missouri have garnered accreditation.
MBU began the process of preparation for initial NCATE accreditation more than four years ago. In February, a team of six educators associated with NCATE visited MBU for four days, rigorously evaluating the education division’s curriculum, faculty and the University’s necessary support systems.
