MBU Again Named One of America’s Best Christian Colleges

September 27, 2005

Affirming its unwavering mission to faith and learning, Missouri Baptist University has for the seventh consecutive year been deemed one of America’s Best Christian Colleges.

“Missouri Baptist University continues to foster an environment that allows students to cultivate a strong Christian life and excel academically, enabling them to become faith-directed leaders in society,” said Dr. R. Alton Lacy, MBU president, “We are honored to again receive this recognition.”

In accordance with its mission, MBU weaves an evangelical Christian environment with challenging academics to create an enriched and unique college experience. The University is committed to elevating its students’ lives spiritually, intellectually, and professionally.

Before graduation, students are required to take at least six credit hours of biblically based coursework, volunteer time for community-service projects and weekly attend the University’s convocation.

This year, the Institutional Research and Evaluation, Inc., surveyed 1,044 institutions for the annual report. Out of the 429 Christian institutions that responded to the survey nationwide, 156 institutions, including twenty-six other Southern Baptist colleges, were recognized as America’s Best Christian Colleges. To be qualified for the distinguished designation an institution must:

2. Offer full residential facilities including residence halls and dining services.
3. Have had an entering freshman class in the fall of 2004 with a high school grade point average and/or SAT/ACT score equal to or above the national average for all freshmen entering Christian institutions of higher education.
4. Be affiliated with a recognized denomination, or claim current or historical association with, or be governed directly by a recognized Christian denomination, or be an interdenominational institution providing an educational experience incorporating basic Christian principles and beliefs into the instructional curriculum and/or social environment.
