RE: Consortium for Global Education Annual Conference
Consortium for Global Education Annual Conference
September 23, 2005
The eighteenth annual meeting of the Consortium for Global Education (CGE) was held September 21-23 at Missouri Baptist University. In attendance were strategic CGE university and college faculty and CGE international partners who came with specific information about international projects and issues. Each of the participating CGE universities and colleges shared the highlights of their international programs and heard reports on the countries that are already involved with partnership programs for faculty and students.
This year’s theme, Education: A Lifeline to the World, showcased new CGE projects and opportunities in Myanmar, Vietnam, China, Korea, Greece, and the UAE. Dr. Carolyn Bishop, CGE president, reported on these new opportunities, as well highlights of global competition and cooperation from the previous year
Dr. Luke Zhang of Jinan, China presented an Asian perspective on the crisis and opportunity of education in China. Through work funded and carried out through CGE, the planning and implementation of an American university in China has begun. This partnership carries with it the distinct impact of faith and values upon the Chinese culture.
The Consortium for Global Education is composed of nearly fifty member institutions and meets annually. Working as individual universities and colleges and as cohort groups, CGE member institutions have established an estimated 241 mutually beneficial partnerships with some of the world’s most prestigious universities in more than 80 countries.
