“Journey Into MBU” – Welcome Weekend 2005
August 22, 2005
With boxes of belongings and loads of anticipation, freshman Holly Shaffer made her way to Missouri Baptist University last weekend—a place she’ll likely call home for the next four years.
She wasn’t alone.

According to projected University enrollment figures, Shaffer is currently one of projected 1,090 undergraduate students who will began classes at MBU’s main West St. Louis County campus Monday morning, helping to make this year’s undergraduate enrollment the largest in the University’s 41-year history.
Total enrollment, including undergraduate and graduate programs, is expected to set another record year with over 4,200 students.
“I chose MBU because my faith is very important to me,” said Shaffer, shortly after attending her first college course. “I didn’t want to attend just any Christian school; I want to be in a place where my relationship with God can grow. I expect to be challenged this semester.”
More than 250 new and returning MBU students kicked off college careers this past weekend by, among other things, offering a helping hand to local children in need.
Apart of the University’s “Journey into MBU” Welcome Weekend, students spent a day of community service at the Missouri Baptist Children’s Home in Bridgeton, Mo. From landscaping and maintenance projects to fellowshipping with residents, new MBU students left a campus bustling with activity—from orientation sessions to a Saturday carnival—to help the MBCH, a Christian residence for children facing crisis.
Creating an annual tradition, Saturday marked the fifth year MBU students have partnered with MBCH. Founded in 1886, the organization cares for troubled and disadvantaged children in five campuses located throughout Missouri.
