RE: August Board of Trustees Meeting

August Board of Trustees Meeting

August 26, 2005

The Missouri Baptist University Board of Trustees, in a regular quarterly meeting, approved new faculty appointments, recognized philanthropic individuals and organizations, adjusted the employee benefit plan and approved the re-election of six trustee members.

050826_release_gift.jpgPresident Lacey opened the meeting with a general report on institutional vitality. In addition to citing 2005 as yet another record enrollment year, Dr. Lacey presented the positive results of the annual salary survey and the upcoming recognition of those faculty and staff for years of service.

Faculty appointments were approved for Dr. Shelton Smith, associate professor of education and Mr. James Chellew, assistant professor of education.

The Board also approved the executive committee’s recommendation to immediately extend the University’s flexible benefit plan’s (section 125 of the IRS code) claim period by 2.5 months and to roll excess plan forfeitures into the collective plan in the subsequent year.

The nominating committee recommended the re-election of six trustees which was approved in unanimous form: Charles Cantrell, Bill Copeland, and Darryl Rosser to a third term, and Wanda Haworth, Marshal Jung and Trevor Reese to a second term. All six terms will end in 2008.

In closing the Trustees offered gift recognition for President Alton Lacey’s ten years of service at the University. Representing the Board, Rev. John Hessel noted that Dr. Lacey has “served the institution well over the past ten years, dramatically increasing the degree of excellence and institutional integrity. It has been a pleasure for us to serve along side of you.” An avid fly fisher, president Lacey received a Hexagraph Classic fly rod and Ross Limited Edition copper reel.
