RE: Student Receives MCA-I Documentary Award
Student Receives MCA-I Documentary Award
August 3, 2005
The Media Communications Association-International gave the Golden Reel Award –its highest honor– to Missouri Baptist University students Emily Hauch, Katie Hotze, and J.T. Sampson for “Consequences of Influence,” a documentary produced, directed, and written by MBU students.
In addition to receiving awards, “Consequences of Influence” is being used locally and nationally by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (M.A.D.D.) organizations in high schools and colleges.
The documentary conveys the dangers of driving under the influence through compelling interviews with three mothers who lost children as result of drunk driving. A prosecuting attorney, criminal court justice, and prosecuted driver also contributed expert testimonies. “Each one has a story to be told, the story of the living and the dead,” said Katie Hotze, student director of the project. “The three moms – the tears they were shedding – it was hard not to be emotional hearing their stories.”
The Media Communications Association-International is a global community that provides opportunities for networking, benefits, forums for education and the resources for information to media communications professionals. Since 1978, Golden Reel honors have been highly coveted and recognized internationally for their prestige.
