Two Longtime MBU Administrators Retire

July 18, 2005

Robert and JoAnn Miller, Director of Financial Services and Executive Director for Constituent Relations respectively, announced plans to retire July 2005. Combined, the Millers have served the University for thirty-years.

Dr. Jo Ann (Willey) Miller is a 1958 graduate of Quincy Senior High School in Quincy, IL. Dr. Miller came to the then-college as a student in the mid-1970’s where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Education, then earned a Master of Education in 1981 and a doctorate in Higher Education Administration in 1992, both from the University of Missouri – St. Louis.

After working as an English teacher at DeSoto High School, Dr. Miller began her employment with MBU as Dean of Students in 1984. During her tenure, Dr. Miller has served the institution in roles including Assistant Academic Dean, Director of Teacher Education, Education Division Chair, and finally as Executive Director of Constituent Relations.

Since beginning her position as Executive Director for Constituent Relations in 2000, Dr. Miller has developed and implemented programs and events aimed at serving the alumni, parents, and friends of Missouri Baptist University. Miller and her husband led bi-annual trips across the country for The MBU Movers, a group of MBU alumni and parents. Dr. Miller was also instrumental in restructuring the existing bi-annual Senior Adult Day. Dr. Miller will be recognized for twenty years of service to the University this fall.

Mr. Bob Miller began his service with the then-college in 1993 after thirty years of employment in the automotive industry. Beginning as an Accounts Receivable Officer, Miller was appointed Director of Financial Services in 1997. During his time as Director, Miller oversaw administrative department mergers and developed a first-rate Financial Services Office.

In addition to his service to the University, Mr. Miller has held active roles in the community including Hillsboro Alderman and President of Jefferson County Library Board of Trustees.

A reception honoring the Millers’ years of service to University was held July 13. The Millers plan to stay in the St. Louis area and continue to remain involved with the University. Plans after retirement include travel, scrap booking and enjoying time with family.
