Carstens Named Coach of the Year

Missouri Baptist University head golf coach, Randy Carstens, was named NAIA Region V Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season after the Spartans clinched the Golf Regional Title on May 3. The Spartans won the AMC Championship by 32 shots over defending champion William Woods University.

Coach Carstens is completing his eleventh season with the MBU golf team. This year marks his second Region V Coach of the Year award. He earned American Midwest Coach of the Year honors in 1996, 2002, 2003 and 2004.

MBU’s team was led by sophomore Danny Manselle, who won the Individual Championship in both the American Midwest Conference tournament and the NAIA Region V Championship. Finishing with a score of 68/75/143 +3, Manselle was also named to the NAIA All Region V Team, along with teammate Ryan Howell. Spartans named to the American Midwest All Conference Team included Manselle, Erik Rios, and Rodolfo Gamino.

Carstens and his team are preparing for the 54th Annual NAIA National Golf Championships beginning May 24 in Olathe, Kansas.
