RE: MBU Joins Premier Christian Council

MBU Joins Premier Christian Council

March 2, 2005

MBU joins over a hundred other Christian educational institutions as a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU). The organization unanimously voted for MBU’s inclusion at their January board meeting.

CCCU is an international higher education association of intentionally Christian colleges and universities. Founded in 1976 with 38 members, the Council has grown to 105 members in North America and 71 affiliate institutions in 24 countries. Headquartered on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., CCCU is dedicated to advance the cause of Christ-centered higher education and to help institutions transform lives by faithfully relating scholarship and service to biblical truth.

CCCU members must demonstrate a strong commitment to Christ-centered higher education within a full-accredited liberal arts and sciences curriculum. Additionally, institutions must stress the integration of faith, knowledge and service and only hire faculty and administrators who profess faith in Jesus Christ.

Of the 900 religiously affiliated colleges and universities in the United States, only 105 Christ-centered institutions have qualified for CCCU membership.

President Alton Lacey said, “The University is joining a strong and vibrant fellowship of institutions that essentially sets the standard for Christian education. The membership recognizes our mission to integrate faith and learning in ways that are practical and meaningful to our students.”

Over the past decade, MBU has emphasized participation in state and national organizations that promote or impact Christian education. In addition to membership in CCCU, the University is a member of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri (ICUM), Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU), and the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools (ASBCS). Dr. Lacey has served in leadership roles in ICUM, ASBCS and other state organizations.
