RE: Gandzalova Will Take Her Game to Sweden
Gandzalova Will Take Her Game to Sweden
November 23, 2004
Just nine months ago MBU's Martina Gandzalova graced the floors of Missouri Baptist Universities Muncy Gymnasium with style, class, and grace. Now she will take her moves to Sweden. Gandzalova has signed a contract with Sweden's Top Level National Team and becomes the first Women's Basketball player from Missouri Baptist University to play professional basketball. Gandzalova received the call on Sunday November 21st and will fly out to Sweden on Thursday November 25th. She will play in her new team's first game on Sunday November 28th.
Gandzalova, a native of Popard, Slovakia, finished her college career at MBU last year. She averaged 14 points, seven rebound and three assists for the Lady Spartans in helping lead her team to a 17-13 record and claiming All-Conference Honors. The 6'0” Gandzalova played forward for the Lady Spartans, but will transition to her more natural position of guard in Sweden.
“I am very nervous and anxious” said Gandzalova. This has all happened so fast. I am just excited to get over there and start playing.”
Gandzalova was helping the Lady Spartans coaching staff this season as a Student Coach as she completed her final semester of school before she received the call that will send her all the way a crossed the Atlantic.
“Martina is a great coach” said MBU Head Coach Danny Wingate. We will sorely miss her on the bench, but this is an opportunity that she can not pass up. Martina deserves to be playing professional basketball. I have no doubt that Martina will represent MBU in a first class manner.”
Martina will return to Missouri Baptist University after her season in Sweden is complete to finish her final semester of school before heading back to Sweden.
