RE: November Board of Trustees Meeting

November Board of Trustees Meeting

November 23, 2004

In the regularly scheduled meeting, University Trustees convened November 18, 2004, to recognize the institution’s fortieth anniversary, review financial audits, and approve bylaw changes.

The Board received reports from board committee chairs. The academic affairs committee reported strong continued progress in a two year education-division self-study. The study is in preparation for a dual DESE and NCATE team visit in February 2005. In related developments, the health and sport sciences division prepared materials for the Sports Management Program Review Council seeking national accreditation.

The business and audit committee presented the findings of an annual independent audit by Humes & Barrington, St. Louis. The report positioned 2003/2004 as the strongest fiscal year in the University’s history and praised the institution’s record enrollments, developing master’s program and lack of dependency on investment margins.

The executive committee presented amendments coordinating language and procedures already present in the institution’s charter. The board voted unanimously on the amendments with no discussion. Changes included the use of “University” in places where “College” was still used, the formal renaming of the “business and audit committee,” and clarifying the language in reference to the nominating committee’s appointments and composition.

The board also unanimously endorsed the University’s application for CCCU (Council of Christian Colleges and Universities) membership and an executive committee recommendation to add long term care insurance to the faculty and staff benefit package.

The nominating committee presented a near identical committee membership slate with the exception of the newly appointed Mrs. Mary Pillsbury-Wainwright who will be filling a void on the board’s athletic committee. Dr. Randall Fullerton will be chairing the 2004-2005 nominating committee whose members include Dr. Bill Miller, Mrs. Tillie Mayse, Mr. Carl Petty, and Mr. Trevor Reese.
