Touhill Receives Lifetime Achievement Award

Dr. Blanche Touhill, Chancellor-Emeritus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, was awarded the William Barnaby Faherty Award for Lifetime Achievement during the 2004 Awards Presentation for the Historical Society of St. Louis County.
Dr. Touhill began her career in education at Queens College, City University of New York, before joining UMSL as an assistant professor. Dr. Touhill was named Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs in 1987 and assumed the responsibilities of Interim Chancellor in 1990. She was named Chancellor in 1991. Dr. Touhill holds bachelor's and doctoral degrees in history and a master's degree in geography from St. Louis University. Dr. Touhill has served on a number of civic and corporate boards, including Trans World Airlines, Delta Dental, the Urban League of St. Louis, Civic Progress and the Missouri Botanical Gardens. In 1997, she was named the St. Louis Citizen of the Year.
Because of her innovation and strong leadership, she successfully accomplished bringing to St. Louis a world-class performing arts center. Named in her honor, the Blanche Touhill Performing Arts Center hosts a variety of events each year.
Past recipients of this award include Senator Jim Talent and George “Buzz” Westfall.
Also awarded at this year’s awards ceremony were Dr. Michael Ruddy, recipient of the Edward J. Maguire Award for Distinguished Teaching, and Mr. Michael Kahn, J.D., recipient of the 2004 St. Louis Book Award.
Missouri Baptist University hosted the 2004 Awards Presentation for the Historical Society of St. Louis County on October 21, 2004, in the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center. Dr. Arlen Dykstra, 2004 President of the Historical Society of St. Louis County and MBU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs presided over the awards. Missouri Baptist University hosts the Missouri Historical Society Awards presentations annually each fall.
