MBU Professor Ladd Faszold Receives Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching
September 24, 2004
Dr. Ladd Faszold, Professor of Music and Chair of the Fine Arts Division at Missouri Baptist University, was awarded the 2004 Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
The Governor’s Award recognizes excellence in higher education instruction and evaluates teaching effectiveness, advising, service to the college community, commitment to high standards of excellence and nurturing student achievement. MBU faculty have been awarded this distinction for 10 consecutive years.
As participants in one of MBU’s most challenging and admired programs, music students rely on the instruction of Dr. Faszold. “When knowledge is imparted in such a way that a student’s eyes are lit with understanding,” Faszold said, “a certain degree of satisfaction overtakes me. To me, this is the essence of education.”
Faszold, whose contagious love of music supersedes the walls of a classroom, is an active member and participant in musical organizations across the country. Membership in the highly esteemed National Association of Recording Arts and Sciences has given Faszold the unique honor of voting for the Grammy Awards. His own musical skills are continually being refined as he continues to perform in prestigious professional music organizations, such as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Chorus and the St. Louis Symphony Society.
In addition to teaching classes, advising students, and chairing the Fine Arts Division, Dr. Faszold also headed up the documentation for MBU’s first accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Music, a prominent membership given to approximately six hundred accredited institutions nationwide.
Dr. Faszold received his B.M.E. from Southeast Missouri State University, Master of Church Music from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and Doctor of Musical Arts from University of Memphis.
