RE: MBU Professor to Teach Antitrust Law in Korea
MBU Professor to Teach Antitrust Law in Korea
June 4, 2004
MBU professor of interdisciplinary studies, Cordell Schulten, will teach a course on antitrust law at Handong International Law School (HILS) in Korea this summer.
HILS offers a unique opportunity for Korean and international students interested in a U.S. law school curriculum that meets and exceeds the requirements of the American Bar Association. HILS is also unapologetic in its Christian heritage and commitment to the study and practice of law from a Christian worldview.
Schulten practiced commercial litigation as a trial attorney for twelve years before joining Missouri Baptist University in 1996. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social Sciences from Bob Jones University, a Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law, and was conferred this May with a Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Covenant Theological Seminary.
Schulten is a frequent presenter and mostly recently spoke on the topic “Thinking through Recent U.S. Supreme Court Capital Punishment Cases” in November 2003 at the Christian Legal Society’s national conference. After the presentation, Hee Eun Lee, Associate Dean of HILS, approached Schulten and encouraged his application for the summer program.
“I am participating in this program because it is a tremendous opportunity to broaden the academic scope of Missouri Baptist University’s ministry through teaching at an internationally recognized university in the Republic of Korea. God calls and enables us to go and use the gifts he has entrusted to us to assist in equipping others to serve more effectively in their spheres of calling,” says Schulten.
Schulten litigated antitrust law while serving at Lewis, Rice & Fingersh, LLC, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Antitrust focuses on federal laws such as the Sherman Act and the Robinson-Patman Act used by government and private companies to address anti-competitive conduct and issues related to market monopolies. These laws protect trade and commerce from unlawful restraints, price discriminations, and price fixing.
