Thirty-Second Commencement Celebration

April 8, 2004

Over 370 students will receive degrees, 139 having completed their graduate work at Missouri Baptist University’s thirty-second commencement exercises. Graduates, family, and friends will gather at Greensfelder Recreation Complex located in Queeny County Park at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24.

MBU President Dr. R. Alton Lacey will preside over the ceremony, which will feature a keynote address by Mr. John W. Bachmann, senior partner of Edward Jones. In 1980, he succeeded Edward D. Jones, Jr., as managing partner of Edward Jones. He currently serves in such capacities as director of the Arts and Education Council of Greater St. Louis, vice chairman of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and trustee of Washington University and the St. Louis Science Center.

For the first time in fourteen years, Missouri Baptist University will award an honorary degree during commencement. Mr. Joyce S. Pillsbury will be honored with a Doctor of Humane Letters. Businessman, philanthropist, and humanitarian, Mr. Pillsbury has carried on the legacy of his family’s interest in fostering Christian values. His family established the Pillsbury Foundation in 1944 to support organizations working in the areas of religion, education, and health. Recently, Mr. Pillsbury provided generously from the Foundation and his personal giving to make the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center a reality at MBU.

The graduates will be conferred in degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Professional Studies, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Science in Education, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate of Science in Business Administration, Writing Certificate in English, Certificate of Business Administration, and Master of Science in Education.
