Grant Writing Workshop Offered to Professionals and MBU Students

January 28, 2004

Workshop registration is now closed.

For the spring semester, Missouri Baptist University’s graduate education program is providing professional support to teachers and counselors through basic and advanced grant writing workshops offered on February 14, March 27, and April 17, 2004.

Workshop presenter, Carey Kaltenbach, is the Vice President for Fund Development at Area Resources for Community and Human Services in St. Louis, Missouri. Carey has extensive experience as a grant writer consultant and workshop facilitator and has conducted nearly 300 workshops across the country. His seminar covers the elements of assessing needs, writing the basic grant proposal, and developing a grant writing team within a district.

“When assessing educational and counseling needs, funding is always a major consideration. This Grant Writing Workshop is designed to meet professional funding needs at various professional levels,” says Mary Ann Conaway, director of graduate counseling.

Regional professionals and MBU students found the workshop instantly applicable to their present or future careers. Student Gregory Anderson, a Youth Development Counselor for the Housing Authority of St. Louis County, attended the workshop to increase his knowledge on expense programs and grant writing. Recently his grant funded operation was granted $700,000 to bring in 29 students to receive construction training to build houses with two union contractors. The grant will pay for pants, boots, tool belts, and architecture in Wellston, Missouri.

Three hours of gradate credit are available from MBU for workshop participants who attend and participate all four days and complete one follow-up activity. For more information on the Grant Writing Workshop or the Graduate Counseling Program, call Dr. Mary Ann Conaway at 314-392-2332.
