NASM Accredits MBU

December 3, 2003

Missouri Baptist University receives Associate Member accreditation standing with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

This level of accreditation signifies a strong music program and testifies to the University’s academic credibility. “The NASM accreditation puts us on a new level. It reflects the quality prospective music students seek. And I anticipate continued growth and interest in our program,” comments Ladd Faszold, Chair of Fine Arts Division.

While accreditation is granted to the entire institution, the music programs reviewed by NASM include MBU’s Bachelor of Music in Church Music, Bachelor of Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Performance, and the newly-created Bachelor of Arts in Music. The music program currently has a hundred students in participation.

“The University has made great strides to expand and support our music and fine arts programs. We have outstanding new facilities and exemplary faculty. This accreditation recognizes our excellence in this field,” says Dr. Alton Lacey, MBU president.

NASM, founded in 1924, is an organization of over 600 accredited conservatories, colleges and universities. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees. Accreditation reviews focus on educational quality, institutional integrity, and educational improvements.

MBU is also accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education.
