MBU hosts MBDC
November 20, 2003
On November 11-12, Missouri Baptist University hosted the Missouri Baptist Development Council’s annual meeting, with Ben Elrod as conference keynote speaker. The Missouri Baptist Development Council is an organization of development officers from all Baptist entities of Missouri.
Dr. Ben M. Elrod is currently serving Ouachita Baptist University as Chancellor after serving ten years as President. He will complete his twenty-seventh year of serving Ouachita this academic year.
He served as president of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Arkansas and the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Universities; as chairman of the Board of the Consortium for Global Education; and as a trustee of the Baptist Health Corporation and the Baptist Health Foundation in Arkansas. He was named Outstanding Baptist Educator for the Year 1997. He and his brother, John Elrod, operate two family corporations, Pineland Corporation and the Elrod Company, an oil and gas business.
Dr. Elrod holds two earned doctorates, from Southwestern Theological Seminary, where he was designated as a Distinguished Alumnus, and Indiana University.
He was among the pioneer fundraisers in Southern Baptist work, having established the development program at Ouachita beginning in 1963. His work has been recognized with numerous awards and honors. He consults and is in demand as a speaker on institutional advancement.
“Dr. Elrod is an exciting speaker, bringing practical solutions to development concerns from years of his own experience,” says Jo Ann Miller, 2003 president of MBDC and Executive Director for Constituent Relations for Missouri Baptist University.
During the conference, Missouri Baptist Foundation honored Mrs. Audre Hunn with the 2003 Nelson Fellow Award for her contributions to ministry, including her establishment of the Partnership Missions Endowment Fund. Selected scenes from MBU’s Meet Me in St. Louis, along with MBU drama performances, entertained during the evening.
MBDC’s 2004 president will be Derald Harris of Missouri Baptist Children’s Home. The 2004 conference will be held at Southwest Baptist University.
