RE: Meet Me at MBU: Homecoming 2003
Meet Me at MBU: Homecoming 2003
November 21, 2003
Missouri Baptist University commemorated its fortieth anniversary with “Meet Me at MBU,” a week-long homecoming celebration aligned with the centennial anniversary of the 1904 World’s Fair. On November 8-15, students, alumni, and their families were invited to come home to MBU and share in a milestone—40 years of MBU history, memories, and friendships.
Alumni toured the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center, along with recent renovations of the Thomas Field Academic Hall. Spartan alumni also had the opportunity to rekindle old memories with many of the scheduled club and class reunions.
MBU student Homecoming events began with a bonfire celebration and Spartan athletic events. Throughout the week, students enjoyed the fine arts division during the MBU Jazz Band concert, and the musical production, Meet Me in St. Louis, inspired by the 1904 World’s Fair. Visitors could also take a glance at actual film footage from the event that spawned hot dogs and waffle cones, and ride the complimentary Ferris wheel and carousel.
Students filled the student section to overflowing to cheer on Spartan wrestling and MBU women’s and men’s Homecoming basketball games. To finish the Homecoming celebration, seventeen student acts entertained with amateur singing, poetry readings, and creative skits, during MBU’s student tradition, The Perk. Hundreds of students, alumni, and visitors joined in the 40th anniversary celebration, making memories they will never forget.
