RE: November Board of Trustees Meeting
November Board of Trustees Meeting
November 20, 2003
In the regularly scheduled quarterly meeting, the MBU board entertained reports detailing record enrollments, academic program changes and officer appointments.
As traditional for each November meeting, the board reviewed final enrollment figures and updated an August enrollment statement. President Lacey announced that the University’s total headcount rose an unprecedented 14.6 percent over last year and FTE (Full Time Equivalency) figures revealed a 14 percent increase.
Dr. Lacey presented the board with a document outlining the University’s strategic plan. “We are a mission-driven institution, and you will find that all of our plans and developments flow from our mission statement,” Lacey reaffirmed as he explained the significance of the plan to the board.
The board approved the academic committee’s request to remove the Instrument Concentration in the Bachelor of Music in Performance degree to better align program offerings for an anticipated National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) accreditation.
The academic committee also sought the approved faculty appointment for Dr. Charles Stikes, Professor of Counseling and Education. They also recognized the EXCEL program’s twentieth anniversary and the near fifty schools participating in the dual enrollment program and a record 709 headcount enrollment in the Masters of Science in Education degree.
The business committee presented the board with the independently-reviewed audit of the institution’s financial standings. The auditors commended the University on its strong financial position and the unique balance of maintaining fiscal growth and benevolent support for students.
Trustees approved the appointment of the 2004 officers and committee chairs. Mr. Bill Houk was reappointed board chairman, and Mr. Gerald Rogers and Mr. Mel Bishop, were appointed Vice Chairman and Secretary, respectively. The board’s nominating committee members were elected and include: Dr. Randall Bunch, Mrs. Wanda Haworth, Rev. John Hessel, Dr. J. Marshall Jung, and Mrs. Juanita Stalnaker ‘73.
President Lacey presented four trustees with an MBU medallion upon their inaugural session of service: Juanita Stalnaker ‘73, member of Parkway Baptist Church and alumna; Bill Miller, pastor of First Baptist Church Farmington, Dalton Farrell Ham, member of South Gate Baptist Church, and John Boudinot ‘75, member of Ashland Baptist Church and alumnus.
