Local Sports Legends Honored at MBU Hall of Fame Banquet
November 18, 2003
The Missouri Baptist University Athletic Department held its first annual Hall of Fame Banquet in the Mabee Great Hall of the Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts building on Friday November 14. Over one hundred tickets were sold for the event as past and present All-Americans were honored and three individuals were inducted into the MBU Spartan Hall of Fame.
The evening began with opening comments by Mr. Danny Wingate, as he shared the vision of the athletic department and introduced MBU’s Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Arlen Dykstra. Dr. Dykstra welcomed the MBU alumni and old and new Spartan athletes, and asked the blessing on the evening meal. MBU Athletic Director, Mr. Thomas Smith, awarded each past and present Spartan All-American with a plaque as a token of appreciation for athletic achievement.
Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Terry Pollard was presented by Mr. Lowell Pitzer, Assistant Professor of Health and Science at Missouri Baptist University. Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Clark Wille was presented by Mr. Travis Brown, principal of Beaumont Senior High School and 1973 Hall of Fame inductee. Hall of Fame inductee, Mr. Lee McKinney was presented by Mr. Patrick Winning, attorney and 1974 MBU Hall of Fame inductee.
All Hall of Fame inductees will have their names placed on the south wall of Muncy Gymnasium. Each Spartan All-American will also be honored as their names will appear on the Spartan All-American Board displayed in Muncy gymnasium.
“The evening was wonderful” said Tom Smith. “I could not have imagined it to have gone any better. We are so excited to have our alumni back on campus, and we are already excited about planning next year’s festivities.”
