RE: Launching the Purpose-Driven Life

Launching the Purpose-Driven Life

October 13, 2003

On October 11, an expectant 7,000 churches across the nation participated in a launch of Dr. Rick Warren’s 40 Days of Purpose campaign. Fee Fee Baptist Church in St. Louis hosted a regional launch at Missouri Baptist University’s Pillsbury Chapel and Dale Williams Fine Arts Center on Saturday evening.

Dr. Rick Warren, pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, and author of The Purpose-Driven Life, the New York Times best-selling book, will jumpstart the Fall Campaign by satellite simulcast and electronic media across the nation. The Fall Campaign will take place October 11 - November 23 and will support The Purpose Driven Life program by incorporating the energy and power associated with the synergy of participating with a group of others.

The program encourages believers to practice five God-ordained purposes—worship, community, discipleship, ministry and evangelism—as the keys to living a fulfilling life.

Dr. Warren explained, "Through 40 Days of Purpose, thousands of people have come to Christ, been baptized, welcomed into membership, connected to a small group or Sunday School class, been taught the meaning of real worship, been equipped for personal ministry and been commissioned to fulfill their mission in the world."

In a national pilot program conducted last year, fifteen hundred churches participated in the program, reporting an average growth of 79 percent in Sunday school attendance and a 22 percent increase in worship attendance.
