RE: August Board of Trustees Meeting
August Board of Trustees Meeting
August 28, 2003
The Missouri Baptist University board of trustees approved the development of two Master’s programs, new trustee and faculty appointments, a seventh academic division and announced record enrollment projections.
In the regularly scheduled quarterly meeting, the board approved the development of two graduate programs: a Master of Business Administration (MBA) and a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry (MACM). The Higher Learning Commission team visit will be conducted in early December for the formal endorsement of the two new graduate programs. MBU currently offers a Masters of Science in Education (MSE) with an enrollment of six hundred students in only three years.
The board’s academic committee reports an upcoming team visit by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) in late September. This visit explores the scope and integrity of the University’s music programs in pursuit of an anticipated November NASM accreditation approval.
The committee also notes that the former Natural and Health Sciences division is expanding into two separate divisions: Natural Sciences division, including biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics, and Health and Sports Sciences division, including health science, kinesiology, sports management, and sports medicine. The creation of the separate divisions allows for continued growth in the respective academic fields.
President Lacey notes that early enrollment figures indicate a combined 3,400 student headcount – an expected 6.5 percent increase over fall 2002. Reports also project the possibility that this fall freshman class may be the largest in the University’s history. Final enrollment will be announced in October, with the addition of second eight-week course figures. Fall class began August 18, 2003.
The board recognizes the appointment of fourteen faculty members: Dr. Marsha Staley, Assistant Professor of Education, Mrs. Carol Dolan, Assistant Professor of Education, Mr. Van Vaughn, Assistant Professor of Counseling and Human Services, Mr. Thomas Smith, Instructor of Education, Athletic Director, Head Wrestling Coach, Mr. Danny Wingate, Instructor of Education, Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Mr. Anthony Tompkins, Instructor of Health and Sport Sciences, Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Dr. Paul Gregory “Greg” Comfort, Associate Professor of Health and Sport Sciences & Chair of Health and Sport Sciences Division, Ms. Erica Asher, Instructor of Health and Sport Sciences, Assistant Athletic Trainer, Dr. Bradley Didion, Assistant Professor of Biology, Dr. Annlie Sing, Assistant Professor of Chemistry, Mr. William Felty, Assistant Professor of Accounting and Business, Ms. Jo Ann Haedike, Assistant Professor of Communication, Mr. Fred Hampton, Instructor of Bible, Campus Pastor, Mrs. Janet Puls, Instructor of Human Services and Psychology, Director of Institutional Research.
The MBU board appoints four trustees for service: Juanita Stalnaker ‘73, member of Parkway Baptist Church and alumna; Bill Miller, pastor of First Baptist Church Farmington, Dalton Farrell Ham, member of South Gate Baptist Church, and John Boudinot ‘75, member of Ashland Baptist Church and alumnus. Four retiring members are recognized for ten years of service on the board: Robert Johnston, Beatty Miller, Mary Pillsbury-Wainwright, and Robert Smith. The MBU board is comprised of twenty-seven members serving three-year terms and members may be re-elected twice for a possible nine consecutive years.
