RE: Campus Pastor Appointed
Campus Pastor Appointed
July 16, 2003
Missouri Baptist University announced the appointment of Fred Hampton as the University’s full-time campus pastor. He will also serve as professor of religion, teaching Old and New Testament History and Foundations in Christian Ministry.
As campus pastor at MBU, Hampton will be fostering students’ spiritual formation, overseeing MBU’s Student Ministries Counsel, and finding opportunities for students in local and foreign ministries and missions.
“This new position is a welcome and needed role for MBU. Hampton’s appointment is a reflection of the University’s commitment to spiritual development,” says Vice President for Student Development, Dr. Andy Chambers.
Hampton will also be conducting the university’s chapel service, promoting worship, and encouraging students through prayer, helping them to find Christ as their source of strength in the midst of life's changing demands.
“That’s our ministry—to broaden the students’ horizons, to educate them academically, but also spiritually,” says Hampton.
Hampton received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Missouri – Rolla in 1985. After working at Ameren UE in St. Louis for over 13 years, he felt the call into ministry. He and his family responded, moving to Texas eight months later, to complete his Master of Theology from Dallas Theology Seminary. He graduated in January 2003.
Fred and his wife, La-Tonya, members of First Baptist Church of St. Peters, will reside in St. Charles with their five children, Zachariah, Kayla, Ciarra, Jovana, and Arista.
