RE: MBU Appoints Dean at Franklin County Extension, Offers New Day Program
MBU Appoints Dean at Franklin County Extension, Offers New Day Program
May 16, 2003
Dr. Linda Sherrill, current Missouri Baptist University associate professor of education, was announced to the appointment of dean of MBU’s Franklin County Extension on May 14.
Dr. Linda Sherrill will assume the position of dean of the extension on June 1. Sherrill has served as associate professor of education and director of graduate educational administration an MBU’s main campus. Dr. Sherrill moved to higher education with MBU after serving as the superintendent of schools in the Bell City School District. She received her doctorate of education in Education Administration and Leadership from Saint Louis University.
“My intent in fulfilling the responsibilities of dean of the Franklin County Extension is two-fold. First, I intend to give my wholehearted effort to continue in the footsteps of Dr. Ross-Fisher. Secondly, I want to develop new relationships so that, through a unity of spirit, we can see the Lord work many wonders for the students who come to us to help them fulfill their calling,” says Sherrill.
In fall 2003, the extension will extend its offerings with day classes through the initiation of a pilot program in Elementary Education. Students will only need to attend two days per week in order to attain full-time status. A Human Services major, appropriate for work in the field of social work, family services, and gerontology, will also be added, and an additional agreement with East Central College has been created, simplifying student transfers. The MBU education division will be seeking DESE program reapproval and initial NCATE accreditation approval this year.
MBU’s Franklin County Extension began offering courses in 1998 with three students in Pacific’s Meramec Valley school district. In the last five years, the extension built its enrollment to 161 students, adding classes, faculty and staff, and moving to its current location in St. Clair.
Vacating extension dean, Dr. Roberta Ross-Fisher, served nine years as associate professor, education division chair and director of teacher education on MBU’s main campus for five years prior to being appointed as dean of the Franklin County Extension in fall of 2000. A published educator and experienced K-12 teacher, Ross-Fisher will continue working as a professor of online distance learning. She is vacating her position to devote more attention to her family. “I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure at Missouri Baptist University,” stated Ross-Fisher. “I will greatly miss my students and colleagues and I will continue to be a friend and supporter of the University.”
