RE: SIFE@MBU to Nationals after Regional Win in Chicago
SIFE@MBU to Nationals after Regional Win in Chicago
May 8, 2003
Winning the regional championship in Chicago April 2, SIFE@MBU is ensured the chance to compete in the national SIFE competition held in Kansas City, Missouri, May 11-13.
Working together as a team and through the mentorship of Walton fellow and SIFE@MBU faculty advisor, Brenda Brandford, SIFE students apply their classroom experiences to develop and implement educational outreach programs that teach individuals in their communities the principles of market economics, entrepreneurship, personal financial success and business ethics.
At Regionals, SIFE@MBU presented their community outreach projects, creatively titled, The High Court of Ethics, Let’s Make a Deal, Follow Your Dreams: Start Your Own Business, and Global Diversity: Bringing People Together.
Competition is judged by how creative, effective, and innovative the team was in their teaching throughout the year. During all service projects, the team calculates their effectiveness through testing. This report is judged along with a mass media presentation and creative skit designed and written by the SIFE team with the use of their own equipment.
Following the competition, one of the judges noted, “Your school has become my standard as to what I will use to judge in the future.”
The national champion will travel to Frankfurt, Germany, to compete at SIFE World Cup 2003 later this October.
Bradford says, “This by far has been the best SIFE team since I've been here. They truly understand what it means to provide a service to the world while learning and growing themselves.”
