RE: MBU President Takes Leadership in National and State Organizations
MBU President Takes Leadership in National and State Organizations
February 3, 2003
President of Missouri Baptist University, Dr. R. Alton Lacey, is actively serving three leadership roles in the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools, Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri and the Coordinating Board of Higher Education in Missouri.
Independent Colleges and Universities of Missouri (ICUM) elected Dr. Lacey, who previously served as vice president, to a two year term as president in December of 2002. ICUM was established to be a collaborative organization for independent institutions in Missouri. Their purpose is to review legislation that affects higher education such as transfer and articulation issues, dual credit, and financial aid.
Dr. Lacey was appointed to the Missouri Coordinating Board’s Committee on Transfer and Articulation (COTA) based in Jefferson City. One of COTA’s major responsibilities is the monitoring of dual credit programs. In addition, COTA has the responsibility for making recommendations to the board for any changes to credit transfer policies, policies regarding teacher education and general education.
Lacey is also serving as 2002-2003 chair of the board of the Association of Southern Baptist Colleges and Schools, of which he was vice chairman in 2001-2002. The Association is owned and operated by its 55 member schools located in 19 states. Its purpose is to provide an organization through which educational institutions currently or historically cooperating with Southern Baptists may work together in promoting the interests of Christian education.
