MBU Publishes Intégrité: A Faith and Learning Journal
January 28, 2003
Missouri Baptist University’s Faith & Learning Committee and Humanities Division have published the first issue of Intégrité: A Faith and Learning Journal. A pioneering scholarly periodical on faith and learning integration, Intégrité examines the philosophical, theological, and pedagogical issues facing faith-based institutions of higher learning. The semiannual journal has been made possible by the Institutional Renewal Grant from the Rhodes Consultation on the Future of the Church-Related College. John J. Han, associate professor of English at MBU, serves as editor of the journal. The editorial advisory board consists of four MBU faculty members: C. Clark Triplett, Curtis K. McClain, Jr., Andy Chambers, and Cordell P. Schulten.
“Our journal is a humble attempt to dialogue with other Christians in the public forum of ideas as to how our Christianity relates properly to our professions,” states contributor, Curtis K. McClain.
The first issue includes five articles and three book reviews, all contributed by MBU faculty. The articles are entitled “A View from the Other Side: Observations on the Work of the ‘Rhodes Consultation on the Future of the Church-Related College’ with Suggestions for Evangelicals”(Andy Chambers), “Postmodern Approaches to Knowledge: Finding a Starting Place for Faith and Learning after Foundationalism” (C. Clark Triplett), “Some Limitations on Faith and Learning Integration” (Cordell P. Schulten), “Forgetting the God We Confess: The Ever-Present Danger Each Christian Faces in This World” (Curtis K. McClain, Jr.), “On the Reduction of the Arts to Theology: Integrating Faith and Learning” (Donald V. Patten), and “The Uses of Reading Ethnic Minority Literature: The Case for Christian Multiculturalism” (John J. Han). The books reviewed in the issue are The Relevance of English: Teaching That Matters in Students’ Lives (Mary C. Bagley), The Openness of God: A Biblical Challenge to the Traditional Understanding of God (Cordell P. Schulten), and The University through the Eyes of Faith (John J. Han).
Complimentary copies of the current issue will be distributed to select Christian colleges and universities, including all the Southern Baptist institutions. Yearly subscription rates are $10 for individuals and $20 for institutions. All orders and address changes should me mailed to John J. Han, editor of Intégrité, Missouri Baptist University, One College Park Drive, St. Louis, MO 63141-8698.
Submissions of scholarly articles and book reviews are welcome and should be sent as e-mail attachments to the editor at hanjn@mobap.edu. Articles must be 15-25 pages in length, double-spaced; book reviews must be 4-8 pages in length, double-spaced. Manuscripts for the first six issues will be contributed almost exclusively by MBU faculty; the subsequent issues will be open to Christian scholars not affiliated with MBU. The upcoming issue is scheduled for publication in May 2003.
