RE: NACEP Ratifies National Standards
NACEP Ratifies National Standards
April 20, 2002
The National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) unanimously ratified national standards for concurrent enrollment (dual credit) programs in its third semi-annual meeting held in Newport, Rhode Island on April 8. NACEP currently has twenty-two founding institutions and twenty-seven members nationwide. Included among the founding institutions are Missouri Baptist College, Saint Louis University, and the University of Missouri at St. Louis.
After more than two years in development, the NACEP standards represent the adoption of rigorous criteria for the evaluation and accreditation of concurrent enrollment partnerships (CEPs). Standards categories include curriculum, faculty, students, assessment, and program evaluation. Full membership will be granted only to those programs that meet all standard criteria.
In other business, NACEP created a new ad-hoc committee, the Government Relations Committee, which will stay abreast of national issues in education that may impact concurrent enrollment partnerships. New officers, elected this coming August, will be installed at the next NACEP annual meeting.
NACEP is an organization of American colleges and universities that offer college courses taught in partnering high schools to qualified high school students. These courses, taught by college-approved and appointed high school instructors, provide students the opportunity to earn college credit while completing their high school graduation requirements. Concurrent enrollment partnerships also provide ongoing professional development for instructors who teach in the programs, as well as opportunities for research in the area of school/college articulation.
Missouri Baptist College professor, Mary Ellen Fuquay, is part of the NACEP Communications Committee and serves on the editorial board of the on-line NACEP newsletter to be first published in August 2002.
