RE: Criminal Defense Attorney Speaks at MBC

Criminal Defense Attorney Speaks at MBC

March 20, 2002

Many well-known trials have occurred over the centuries – such as O.J. Simpson, the Chicago Seven, and the Salem witch trials – but none has affected the history and hearts of mankind like the trial of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Criminal defense attorney Dee Wampler presented a lecture, The Trial of Christ, as part of Missouri Baptist College’s Spring 2002 chapel series.

A Springfield, MO, native with a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law-Columbia, Wampler has over thirty years of experience in the courtroom. He served as assistant Greene County prosecutor from 1967-1970, was elected as a prosecuting attorney from 1971-1972 and has engaged in private practice since 1973. Wampler has been engaged in the private practice of law since 1973 and specializes in felony criminal trial work. He became one of the youngest elected Prosecuting Attorneys in Greene County, Missouri.

Wampler is a member of Second Baptist Church in Springfield and is active in numerous professional and community organizations. He is one of two hundred nationwide criminal trial attorneys to be elected to the American Board of Criminal Trial Attorneys. He has both prosecuted and defended a large number of major felony cases with his high profile work featured nationally on “The Today Show”, “Good Morning America”, “Court TV”, and “Unsolved Mysteries.”

Wampler combined knowledge from experience and faith when he set out to write a book about the most famous trial that has ever occurred. His intention was to prove that Jesus lived and was given a trial full of “conspiracy, animosity, and corruption.”

He has also written nearly one hundred articles for state and national professional journals, including the FBI Enforcement Bulletin and Missouri Bar Journal. He has published four books on Missouri criminal law that were distributed to over 35,000 attorneys and law enforcement officers. In addition, his book, The Trial of Christ: A Twentieth Century Lawyer Defends Jesus, was published in 2000.

Following the chapel service, Wampler talked with MBC students and distributed a pamphlet that outlines his message concerning the trial of Christ. In it, he says, “In even the most controversial trials in world history the accused had guaranteed rights, and proof of guilt was first established by competent evidence from reliable witnesses. But never in our history has there been a travesty of justice equal to that observed in the trial of Christ.”
