MBC SIFE Team Wins At 2001 Regional Competition
April 26, 2001
The Missouri Baptist College SIFE Team matched their educational outreach projects against the programs of twenty-three other SIFE Teams at the 2001 Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Regional Exposition held in Memphis, TN. The MBC team, in only its second year, was awarded first runner-up Award in the regional championship.
The MBC SIFE Team also finished as a finalist in the Visa Responsible Use of Credit Competition. The SIFE organization presented the team with two trophies and a cash award. The funds will be used to continue our work in the community and to begin implementing plans for next year's projects.
The SIFE Team organized and held the Visa Responsibility Use of Credit Week to better inform other MBC students about the value of maintaining a good credit history. They also took their business expertise off campus to local elementary and high schools during Teach a Child about Business Week. The team developed creative lessons relating students to the unfamiliar world of enterprise.
MBC SIFE students presented their outreach programs to a panel of CEO's and entrepreneurs who rated the overall effectiveness of each team's efforts. Students also met with dozens of corporate representatives from across the country to discuss the job market.
Students in Free Enterprise encourages students to take classroom knowledge and apply it to real-life situations - and to use their knowledge to better their communities through educational and community service projects. There are currently thirty MBC SIFE members. The team's officers include: Josh Atkinson, President of Program and Development; Randi Senciboy, President of Administration; Jennifer Weidert, Secretary; and Margaret Jackson, Treasurer. Professor Brenda Bradford, Business Chair, serves as advisor for the MBC SIFE team and was named Sam Walton Fellow in 2000.
SIFE is now celebrating its twenty-fifth year and is active on more than 800 college campuses in 48 states and 15 countries. SIFE is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education to provide college students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing, and teaching the principles of free enterprise. Missouri Baptist College is enthusiastic to be involved in SIFE as they prepare for their third year, having already gained recognition at the National SIFE level for a strong program.
