RE: NACEP Establishes New Plans
NACEP Establishes New Plans
April 6, 2001
The first meeting of the Directors of the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) was held on March 24, 2001, at the Greenberg House of Syracuse University in Washington, D.C. A Board of Directors was appointed, by-laws adopted, and incorporation was approved and ratified. The Board of Directors under the temporary chairmanship of Robert P. Meikle also confirmed the election of officers, conducted by the membership at the previous meeting.
Confirmed by the Board as NACEP officers are President: Robert P. Meikle, Rhode Island College; Secretary: Mary Anna C. Dimitrakopoulos, Indiana University-South Bend; Vice President: William R. Newell, Syracuse University; Treasurer: Donald C. Friday, Finger Lakes Community College; and Member-at-Large: Peter Rutkoff, Kenyon College.
The Directors were also asked by committee chairs to review committee work on standards, membership, by-laws, and the organizational logo. Those reports will be presented to the full membership at the next meeting for approval.
The first Board of Directors includes the five officers, the past president, and the chairs of the four standing committees. In addition to the officers, the Board includes Past President Sue Harkins; Standards Chair Gerald Edmonds, Syracuse University; Research Chair Tom Hensley, University of Missouri-St. Louis; Membership Chair Dianne Siegfreid, Weber State University; and Communications Chair Sharon Sperry, Indiana University-Bloomington.
NACEP meets twice a year. The next meeting will be in October 2001 in Newport, Rhode Island, hosted by the Early Enrollment Program of Rhode Island College.
NACEP is an organization of American colleges and universities that offer college courses taught in partnering high schools to qualified high school students. The courses, taught by college-approved and appointed high school instructors, provide students the opportunity to earn college course credit while completing their high school graduation requirements. Concurrent enrollment partnerships also provide ongoing professional development for instructors who teach in the programs, as well as opportunities for research in the area of school/college articulation.
NACEP supports and promotes its constituent partners through quality initiatives, program development, national standards, research, and communication. Currently, 30 programs, including Missouri Baptist College, Saint Louis University, and the University of Missouri at St. Louis, have been designated as founding institutions of NACEP.
