Dr. Terry A. Chrisope, Professor of History and Bible at Missouri Baptist College, recently published his book entitled, Toward a Sure Faith: J. Gresham Machen and the Dilemma of Biblical Criticism, 1881-1915. The book published by Christian Focus Publications of Scotland (the American distributor is Riverside) illustrates Machen's encounter as a young man with an outlook known as historicism, and his resulting intellectual struggle concerning the supernatural origin of Christianity. It portrays his progress in coming to full confidence in the New Testament account of Christian origins, and the consequences of this struggle for his later life.
Dr. Gary Beall, Professor of Chemistry at Missouri Baptist College, co-edited Polymer-Clay Nanocomposites with T. J. Pinnavaia of Michigan State University. The book was published by John Wiley and Sons and released in January 2001. This publication is the first comprehensive book in this breaking science research area. Nanocomposites are showing potential to revolutionize the whole plastics industry. These new materials will impact our daily lives in very diverse ways. In food packaging, these materials will double or triple shelf life of many foods. In the automotive industry, the greater strength and heat resistance will continue the current trend of replacing metal with plastic to improve gas mileage. These materials also impart flame retardancy to objects made from them. This flame retardancy effect would strongly impact the safety of aircraft and apparel.
