RE: Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching
Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching
December 18, 2000
Dr. Tige Bennett, Professor of Communications at Missouri Baptist College, was honored with the 2000 Governor's Award for Excellence in Teaching on December 6, 2000.
Now in her fifth year on faculty at the College, Dr. Bennett's enthusiasm for teaching continues to be evident to both administration and students. She presents each class as a mini-workshop, mentoring her students through hands-on experiences.
According to MBC colleague Dr. Andy Chambers, "Dr. Bennett is one of those teachers who cares as much about her students' personal growth as she does the material they are learning for class. She is a passionate teacher you love to be around. She gets you excited about life and learning."
In addition to her role as a professor, Dr. Bennett belongs to the Missouri Broadcast Educators Association, the National Association for Multicultural Education, and the Baptist Communicators Association. She also devotes time to further the development of the College through extensive committee responsibilities and aggressive advancement in the communications department. Her involvement is in the following committees: Academic Affairs, Faculty Executive, Faith and Learning, and College Planning.
This past academic year, Dr. Bennett presented lectures at the 1999 MBC Educator's Conference, the Windemere Baptist Assembly, and a Jefferson College seminar. The focus of these sessions was the involvement of student personalities and their effect on the learning environment.
Dr. Bennett received her Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of New Mexico-Albuquerque with a concentration in Education Foundation. In addition, she completed a core program in cross-cultural communications. Bennett earned her B.S. in Speech Pathology at Southwest Missouri State University.
