RE: New MBC Wrestlilng Program

New MBC Wrestlilng Program

April 27, 2000

Missouri Baptist College is expanding the athletic department with the addition of wrestling, women's golf, men's and women's cross country, and cheerleading. The wrestling team will be competing as a club sport in fall of 2000 and will then move to an official NAIA Varsity Status the following season. Head coach and MBC Alumni, Thomas Smith, coached high school wrestling in the St. Louis area for 14 years. Prior to coaching, Smith wrestled three years at Southeast Missouri State University.

Beginning a wrestling team in St. Louis has received an exceptional response. Coach Smith has currently signed 16 wrestlers for the 2000/2001 season. Smith comments, " We have been fortunate to develop a strong team our first year." Included in the signed wrestlers are a state champion and several state qualifiers.

Assisting Coach Smith will be coaches David Sanders, James Milla, Scott Masin, and Jim Ott. Sanders, Assistant Coach, wrestled for SMSU in college and previously coached varsity wrestling at Kirkwood High School. Milla, Conditioning/Athletic Trainer, wrestled for Lindbergh High School, and is currently a personal trainer.

The following are signed to wrestle for MBC in the 2000/2001 season: Mike Bloss, Francis Howell, Central Missouri State; Scott Donjon, Windsor; Scott Masin, Parkway West and SIUE; Josh Randolph, Francis Howell; Jonathan Smith, Parkway West; David Burns, Northwest; Ron Lingua, Kirkwood; Mike Nolan, Kirkwood; Ian Northcott, Francis Howell North and Hannibal; Adrian Ortiz, Belleville East; Jim Ott, Ft. Zumalt South, SMSU; Brandon Page, Marion, IL; Alex Perez, Kennedy and Meramec CC; Joe Schmidt, Rockwood Lafayette; Randy Stephens, Northwest, Kemper College; and Aaron Weaver, Parkway North, Central Iowa College.

For more information, contact Thomas Smith, wrestling coach, at (314) 392-2293.
