RE: MBC SIFE Team Awarded At Regional Competition
MBC SIFE Team Awarded At Regional Competition
April 26, 2000
The Missouri Baptist College SIFE Team matched their educational outreach projects against the programs of twenty-three other SIFE Teams at the 2000 Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) Regional Exposition and Career Opportunity Fair held in Memphis, TN. MBC's first year team passed expectations as they were awarded "Rookie of the Year" and "Regional First Runner-up".
Students in Free Enterprise encourages students to take classroom knowledge and apply it to real-life situations--and to use their knowledge to better their communities through educational and community service projects. There are currently thirty MBC SIFE members. The team's officers include: Jason Butler as president, Randi Senciboy and Joshua Atkinson as co-vice presidents, Jennifer Weidert as secretary, and Margaret Jackson as treasurer.
The SIFE Team organized and held the Visa Responsibility Use of Credit Week to better inform other MBC students about the value of maintaining a good credit history. They also took their business expertise off campus to a local elementary school during Teach a Child about Business Week. The team developed creative lessons relating 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to the unfamiliar world of enterprise.
MBC SIFE students presented their outreach programs to a panel of CEO's and entrepreneurs who rated the overall effectiveness of each team's efforts. Students also met with dozens of corporate representatives from across the country to discuss the job market.
Brenda Bradford, Business Chair, serves as advisor for the MBC SIFE team. Bradford has been named a Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellow in recognition of her leadership and support of the SIFE program at MBC. Bradford came to the College with an enthusiasm about SIFE that has contagiously spread through the faculty, administration, and students. Bradford comments, "This has been an exciting year to see a new group set goals and then surpass them by leaps and bounds. I expect even greater things next year!"
SIFE is now celebrating its 25th year and is active on more than 800 college campuses in 48 states and 15 countries. SIFE is a non-profit organization that works in partnership with business and higher education to provide college students the opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and communication skills through learning, practicing, and teaching the principles of free enterprise.
