RE: Local Educator Honored with 1998 Governor’s Award
Local Educator Honored with 1998 Governor’s Award
December 10, 1998
St. Louis, MO, December, 1998– Dr. Andrew Chambers, full-time Assistant Professor of Bible, Greek, and Christian Education at Missouri Baptist College, received the “Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching” at the 1998 Governor’s Conference on Higher Education, December 10, 1998. In recognition of faculty commitment to excellence in education, the award was presented by Governor Mel Carnahan to 62 faculty members, each representing a Missouri college, university or technical/professional school.
Dr. Andrew Chambers joined the Missouri Baptist College faculty in the fall of 1995 as a part time professor of Religion and Religious Education, having previously served as pastor of Geyer Road Baptist Church in Kirkwood, MO. He is also the Minister to College and Graduate Students at West County Community Church, in addition to his role as a professor.
Many of Dr. Chamber’s students speak highly of his commitment and personal investment in his teaching. “Dr. Chamber’s lack of compromise is contagious on campus, as well as his enthusiasm for learning. He sees education as a way to know who God is, and to know Him better–that is why his students have such an incredible desire to learn,” states Sarah Peters, junior Biblical Languages major. Over the past few years Dr. Chambers has become a strong and positive Christian influence on the MBC campus and he longs to see the truth of Scripture catch fire in people’s lives.
Dr. Chambers earned a Ph.D. and a Master of Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary as well as a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Rolla. He is a regular contributor to magazines on Bible backgrounds and Christian education, such as the Biblical Illustrator and the Sunday School Periodicals, published by the Baptist Sunday School Board Press. Dr. Chambers is also a board member for the Metro St. Louis Single’s Ministry and the National Day of Prayer.
Dr. Chambers and his wife Diana, have three children, Amanda, Bethany, and Eric, and reside in Ballwin, MO.
