On first reference, use a person's full name. This rule also applies to the person's title.
Example: Dr. Arlen Dykstra
When referring to a woman with a courtesy title, use the title Ms. unless the woman is known to prefer another form.
Example: Ms. Sandra Moore
Titles that precede names are capitalized; titles following names are not.
Example: Professor Schulten; Dr. Cathy Benton, professor of music.
Avoid using long titles before names.
Example: Dr. Arlen Dykstra, provost and vice president of academics
Refer to all faculty members as Professor or Prof. regardless of their faculty rank (i.e., assistant professor, instructor) in pieces for outside or non-academic constituents. Faculty rank is to be noted on internal documents only.
Example: Professor Maclin; Professor Bradford
