Recommended Reference Works
The MBU Stylebook should be the first place for style consultation. The
following references are excellent resources for their respected topics. Many of the texts may be found in the campus bookstore.
The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th ed. Chicago: The University of Chicago Press, 2003.
Chicago is the formal and required manual of style for MBU promotions and publications. The manual is a logical "down" style manual. This style requirement has no bearing on academic courses or publications which typically use MLA or AP.
Strunk, William, Jr., and E. B. White. The Elements of Style. 4th ed. Boston: Allyn and Bacon, 2000.
Strunk and White is a basic, brief grammar and usage book that can be referenced for general approaches to language structure. While an excellent resource, there are minor conflicts in the recommendations of this book and the proper use as defined by Chicago.
Goldstein, Norm, ed. Associated Press Stylebook and Libel Manual. Perseus Books, 1998.
Use the AP book only for information on libel as their stylebook is not an accepted format for MBU publications and promotions.
Collegiate Dictionary. 10th ed. Springfield, MA: Merriam-Webster, 1993.
